The IECEP was founded on August 21, 1950 by a group of engineers headed by its founding president, Dean Jose S. Alfonso. The IECEP was organized primarily to promote the advancement of Electronics and Communications Engineering, to cultivate fellowship, free exchange of ideas, mutual help and respect among the members of the profession, to maintain friendly relations with professionals in other related fields, and promote mutual exchange of ideas and expertise for the advancement of the profession.
The third professional organization accredited by PRC, the Institute is a founding member of the Philippine Electronics and Telecommunications Federation (PETEF) and an affiliate of the Philippine Technological Council (PTC).
It is a participant in the CHED’s Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency Program, the Technical Panel Revision of the ECE Curriculum, and the Bureau of Products Standards (BPS) TC/59 Audio Video & Multimedia Systems and Equipment.
In order to promote further the ECE profession, the Institute entered into an agreement with the Society of Broadcast Engineers and Technicians of the Philippines (SBETP) and the Institute of Electronics and Electronics and Electrical Engineers (IEEE) in the United States.
The IECEP has at present 20,000 regular members in addition to its charter, fellow, honorary, institutional, and student members.
